OK, I know, we in the blogosphere (never mind the mainstream media) should have looked into the Boise school board candidates last week, not today as the polls are open and people are casting their votes.
Still. AK at the Sniff Test found out that candidate Doug Park has made recent contributions to the National Republican Congressional Committee and the Republican Senatorial Committee. I went back a little farther and learned he's given close to $4,000 to Republican candidates and causes since 2002, including $500 each to George W. Bush and (gasp) Alan Keyes. Details here.
Needless to say, I can't vote for him. Talk about a stealth candidate. (See my post below.)
Similar searches for candidates Virginia Pellegrini, Phil Kelly, and Tim Swartos yielded no donations. (Only large campaign contributions show up on disclosure data bases.) A.J. Balukoff has given to Butch Otter and Larry Craig. I don't believe donating to Republicans disqualifies one for the school board - but giving to Alan Keyes sure as heck does.
UPDATE: Jill at New West got Doug Park on the phone late this afternoon, but she didn't get many straight answers from him. Read more here.
I plan to stay up a while tonight to see if we get some election results.

Thanks, Julie. I didn't know who to vote for before, but now my wife and I are heading out to vote for Park!

Right, Adam. So I guess that means you will be sending any future offspring of yours to the Boise public schools, right? Based on your writings, I would've guessed you'd be keeping your kids out of the public schools.

If I pay for it, I have a say in it.

Fair enough.
