I'm going to take a long holiday weekend off, from blogging here at RSR, at least. There's a lot of outreach to do to put out the word on Larry LaRocco's upcoming live blogs, which start next Tuesday (May 29) at 8 p.m. Mountain at IdaBlue (where he'll take questions about Iraq and veterans' issues) and continue June 1 at noon at New West and June 5 at noon at Daily Kos. Please note those times and dates and plan to join us. Larry Craig is AWOL, and the more buzz we can build for Larry LaRocco's Senate bid in these early months, the better. Contributions are welcome, too. If LaRocco can outraise Craig this quarter - and do it with lots of small donations - it's going to make people take notice.
Tell me what you plan to do this weekend. I'm going to ride my bike, pull some weeds, paint a fence, go to church, see some movies, eat some ice cream, drink some beer, maybe take a paddle on Quinn's Pond. (The last two items will not be in that order, I promise.) I'm starting to hanker for a road trip, but I have one coming up next weekend, so I'll stay put for now.
Of course, we all need to pause this weekend to remember the people who've given their lives for our country. Here's a list of Memorial Day Weekend activities planned in the Treasure Valley, as well as the latest information on the 3,430+ Americans who have died in Iraq.

One more event, from the Idaho Peace Coalition website:
On Monday, May 28, Veterans for Peace, Chapter 117, will be holding its annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Commemorative Cemetery at Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of Veterans Memorial Parkway and State Street in Boise. We will begin the formal ceremony at 10:00 am, which will last about 30 - 45 minutes. Headstones and crosses will be on display from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. VFP 117 will also staff an information table during the entire day. Please come and join us for the ceremony or come visit the commemorative cemetery.

This just in from the Peace Coalition, too:
The Idaho Peace Coalition will hold a war protest and street action in response to the high death toll in Iraq and Congressional approval of $96 billion more for the War on Friday, June 1 from 4:30-6:30 pm outside congressional offices in downtown Boise.
Participants should gather at the Statehouse at 4:30 pm or rendezvous with the action at. 8th and Bannock. Email idahopeacecoalition@msn.com or 853-4435 for more information. This is a nonviolent action.
