On Monday morning, the Senate Local Government & Tax Committee defeated HB 688, the so-called "trailer" legislation that would allow the state to implement local-option taxing authority under the poison-pill House Joint Resolution 4. The bill died on a 4-3 vote.
But mere hours later, the committee announced a re-do. "Apparently a couple of members decided to vote differently than they did today,” Senate President Pro-Tem Bob Geddes told Eye in Boise.
Huh. Wouldn't you love to know who changed their minds - and more critically, who convinced them (and how)? This isn't government; it's political thuggery. It's time for moderate Republicans to stand up to the ideological goons who have hijacked their party.
