Weekend edition 4/5-6 and open thread
A few things of note this weekend and slightly beyond...
Registration has opened for the 2008 edition of Camp Wellstone, set May 16-18 at the College of Idaho. If you are a progressive running for office, working on a campaign, or interested in greater success in grassroots activism, it's a can't-miss opportunity. Cost is pay-what-you-can, ranging from $50 to $200, which includes hands-on, how-to training; an outstanding book (Politics the Wellstone Way); and three meals. The 2006 Camp Wellstone-Idaho helped several candidates win seats in the Idaho Legislature. Register by the end of April to guarantee your spot.
It's spring book sale weekend at the Boise Public Library. The event runs until 5 p.m. today (April 5) and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, which is half-price day. The sale is in the warehouse behind the library, along 9th Street.
Come see the acclaimed indie film from Romania 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 days and help the Idaho Women's Network. The benefit screening is set for 1 p.m. Sunday (April 6) at The Flicks, 646 Fulton St., Boise. Tickets are $10.
Palestinian scholar and activist Hanan Ashwari is in town to deliver a free lecture, "Peace: Requirements & Obstacles," at 7 p.m. Monday (April 7) in the Special Events Center at Boise State. She also will be the guest of honor at a dinner set for 6 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 10th and State streets, Boise. Cost for that is $40 per person, $10 for students. Ashwari heads up the The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy. The event is sponsored by the Kessler-Keener Lecture Series, which will bring eco-philosopher Joanna Macy to Boise May 1-4. (See the calendar at her website.)
Also stay tuned for news of the annual Ada County Pizza & Politics gathering (next Friday at Borah High) and an Obama "Nation for Change" rally right here in B-town one week two weeks from today.
